In the last blog, we had the opportunity to get to know more about Professor Liberi through the eyes of some of the great leaders of GB.

Today we will have the opportunity to meet our future Master through an exclusive interview. It was an incredible opportunity to get a closer look at the mindset and experiences of Carlos Alberto Liberi. Check it out below.
Question 1: Why Jiu-Jitsu and why Gracie Barra?

Because in addition to being a complete martial art, extremely efficient, it is also an exciting sport that every family can practice. Because at Gracie Barra, I found an extension of my family where everyone is willing to help each other and teaching Jiu-Jitsu is taken very seriously.

Question 2: What marked you the most in each Jiu-Jitsu belt?

What most impressed me in each belt was the sense of responsibility that each one gave me as I conquered them. This was very clear because while the more graduates were a reference, I knew that I was doing the same thing to the fewer graduates.
Question 3: You play a key leadership role for Gracie Barra. On and off the mat, you are recognized as an exemplary leader. In your opinion and experience, what are the essential traits for someone to become a leader within our team?

I believe that a good leader must lead by example, always willing to listen and help his followers in the difficulties that arise about the accomplishment of specific tasks, as well as in their lives when they allow it. It should also be transparent and objective in your speech, inspire confidence and be worthy of it. Another characteristic that I think is important is to strive to the best of your ability to fulfill the mission assigned to you with discretion and assertiveness.

If you have to choose a word or action to define a good leader, surely that word will be “serve.” Serving those you lead, serving your peers, and serving your leader (if you have one) -- it is not for nothing that the word Samurai means “one who serves,” remembering that serving is not being subservient.

Question 4: You will soon graduate as a Master. What does this milestone in your trajectory mean to you?

It means that a significant cycle has ended (the black belt one), and a much bigger one begins. It is an indescribable honor to be recognized through this track as a Master at and from Gracie Barra, while it is also an immense responsibility. I will do my best to be worthy of this honor and to be able to represent the values of our team as this title determines, taking the legacy of Master Carlos Gracie Jr. wherever I go.
Question 5: Any messages you would like to leave for Team GB members?

Yes, I want to say that we are part of a movement that aims to make this world a better place, using Jiu-Jitsu as a working tool and our example as a driving force. As representatives of the most significant, best, and strongest BJJ team globally, we are responsible for keeping our legacy alive, passing on our values to new generations.

Through our integrity, we strengthen our fellowship and increase our development in all areas of our lives. When we genuinely believe in the mission that Master Carlos Gracie Jr has delegated to us, bringing Jiu-Jitsu to Everyone, using the GB departments' tools (GB Jiu-Jitsu, GB Wear, GB Online, GB Events, and GB Institute), our journey towards our goals becomes much easier and more enjoyable, improving the lives of our students and ours as well.

Believe in your potential, make the most of the knowledge provided by our team and use it in all aspects of your life, as many people are working hard for you to succeed on and off the mat.

Believe and…
LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!
