Week 16: Attacking from Mount with Prof. Victor Estima

GB2 Online by Victor Estima: Level Up

In week 16 of the GB curriculum, we will be working on techniques from the mount from the GB2 Online course with Prof. Victor Estima.
Have you checked out the GB Online Instagram account?
You may have learned the basic straight armbar from the mount in your very first Fundamentals Jiu-Jitsu class. But getting your opponent to tap when they know that you are looking for the armbar and are tightly defending their arms is another thing entirely!
VIDEO 1 - Technique 92 Class 16A - Mount or Knee on Belly
This is the situation that Prof. Victor is instructing today on G2 - how to deal with the opponent's defense to our armbar attack. Prof. Victor teaches how he uses elbow control to apply leverage against his opponent and enter into the armbar position.
Tip: Note how Prof. Victor is not grabbing his opponent's arm - matching strength against strength. Instead, he slides his knee and hips behind the opponent's shoulder, using his body to block the opponent from pulling their elbow back to a safe position.

Next video, we see Prof. Victor using a different attack to deal with the same problem - the opponent's strong defensive arms. Prof. Victor uses that exact shoulder/collar grip to move the opponent and isolate their arm.
VIDEO 2 - Technique 93 Class 16A - Triangle from Mount
Pay attention to how Prof. Victor shifts his body weight to maintain his balance on top AND free his legs so that we can close the triangle choke.
Important point: Lift and control the opponent's head during the transition to the triangle.
