The Uchi Mata or Inner Thigh throw is considered one of the "Big" throws in judo. One of the top scoring throws in international level competition. It is also especially good against an opponent in a bent over, defensive stance like we see in bjj competition.
To start the video, Prof. Henrique gets the standard sleeve, collar grip and enters with his hips lower than the opponent's hips to get underneath their center of gravity.
Note the powerful backward kicking action of Prof. Henrique's leg which elevates the opponent's hips up and over to complete the throw.
VIDEO 1: Class 14A : Technique -Uchi Mata - Inner Thigh Throw
Main Concept : The main mechanism that makes this throw work is tripping the opponent over your outstretched leg (like in the Tai Otoshi throw). A strong forward pull makes the opponent lose their balance to their forward direction.
Important detail: Prof. Henrique calls our attention to the position of his right hand on the lapel. This grip will connect his upper body closely with the upper body of the opponent.
These are BIG throws which will land the opponent flat on their back with a big impact when properly executed.
