This week's knee on belly escape techniques are part of Week 10 of the GB2 module with Prof. Victor Estima
One of the toughest positions to get caught in is the bottom of the Knee on Belly (KOB) Prof. Victor Estima shows us how to relieve the enormous pressure and escape the bottom.
In our first video, we find Prof. Victor caught on the bottom and is looking to get the opponent's weight off of his abdomen without pushing away and exposing his arms to a submission attack.
Pay Attention To: How Prof. Victor stresses the importance of keeping his elbow tight on the arm that is pushing the knee to avoid giving an opening. The other arm is posting on the opponent's hips to keep the space. After a hip escape, Prof. Victor creates the room he needs to reposition the guard
Video 1: Technique 56 - Class 10A - KOB escape to closed guard
Prof. Victor is in the same starting position but the opponent has distributed their weight forward and foot is tight on the hip and Prof. Victor doesn't feel like he can escape by pushing the knee like in video #1.
Important concepts: Pay attention to how Prof. Victor does not rely solely on the strength of his arms to push the opponent away to relieve the heavy pressure. A combination of correct frames with the arms and hip / leg action is the most efficient way to escape.
