In our first video we find Prof. Victor in a common guard passing situation: you are part way to passing but the guard player has gotten their knee in between the two bodies and is close to replacing the guard again.
Pay Attention To: How Prof. Victor uses a combination of his bodyweight to smash the opponent's legs and hips and his hands to parry and redirect the opponent's feet / hooks.
VIDEO 1: Open Guard Pass to Side Control - Variation 2
Prof. Victor starts in the same initial position as in Video 1, but the guard player is able to use his far leg to come across and block the original pass.
Important detail! Pay attention to how Prof. Victor stays very tight to the opponents hip and uses his grips to anchor his bodyweight on top of the bottom player. This squashes the guard players legs together and immobilises the hips.
The takeaway : Both of these techniques are about using your bodyweight to crush the opponents legs together and being patient while applying your bodyweight and pressure.
"Maintain the pressure!"
Don't rush the pass...the pass will come if you keep applying the pressure.
