This week we will be looking at a strategy to get the match to the ground without giving our opponent any advantage (or surrendering takedown points) and also how to immediately connect the guard pull to go on the offensive.
To start the video, Prof. Braulio is hand fighting in the standing position and looking for a 2 on 1 grip to gain control of his opponent before sitting to guard.
The most important idea is to bring the match to the ground where you are in control and arrive in a favorable position. Note how Prof. Braulio says not to pull the opponent into him, but to push the opponent's hand straight down to the mat.
VIDEO 1: Standing Pull to Guard
Pay Attention to : Prof. Braulio how Prof. Braulio capitalizes on his opponent's reaction to break his grip and quickly enters into the double hook backwards sweep. Some bjj guys call this humourously "the Dummy Sweep" as it seems such an easy way for your opponent to sweep you!
Important detail: Prof Braulio: "I have to take advantage of the counter to get him moving to the position that I want (moving backwards). If I pull him this way, if he pulls back, that is a tension. If I let it go, he will fall."
