In our first video we find Prof. Braulio defending in the Z-guard and looking to go on the offence. The Z-guard is a great defensive guard to keep the opponent's weight off of you, but as Prof. Braulio demonstrates, we have attack options as well.
Pay Attention To: How Prof. Braulio gets a grip on the opponent's heel of the leg to turn his opponent to bring the opponent to Prof. Braulio and force the opponent to roll. Using the same principle of controlling the foot, Prof. Braulio grips the toes of the opponent, preventing the opponent from turning and rotating their leg out of the pressure of the knee bar. Important gripping details!
Video 1: Class 5A - Knee bar attack from Z-guard
In video #2, Prof. Braulio is starting in the same "L Shape Guard" but is looking for the heel hook off of the original knee bar attack roll.
Important concepts: Pay attention to how Prof. Braulio explains principles of compression and expansion as applied to the mechanics of all of our moves. When we grasp the concepts underlying any move, we immediately increase the effectiveness across any position on the ground.
Advanced Details: When it comes to the heel hook, there are several different grips that you can employ to apply the rotational force to the foot. See the video at 4:30 for the different grips Prof. Braulio recommends.
