In our first video, Prof. Rodrigo finds himself on top of his turtled opponent. Many jiu-jitsu fighters make the mistake of simply jumping on the opponent's back in an attempt to get the hooks on a tightly turtled opponent.
VIDEO 1: Class 12B : Technique - 71
Back take from Turtle using collar grip
Note the detail that Prof. Rodrigo uses his collar and lapel grips to first break the turtled opponent down to a hip, thus creating room for that bottom hook to come in.
Our 2nd video from Turtle shows us how to use some dextrous footwork to secure his hooks to complete the Back Mount and get 4 points for control.
VIDEO 2: Technique 72 - Class 12B
Back taking from Turtle using Grip on the collar and hook on the leg.
Please pay attention to the detail of how Prof. Rodrigo uses his right leg to both controls the opponent's leg AND create leverage to get his body off the mat and climb into the opponent's back.
Special tip: When the opponent uses his hand to block the 2nd hook from entering, Prof. Rodrigo uses his right leg/hook behind the knee as a "Crab ride" to control the opponent's hip movement.
